Paul is Managing Director and Principal of ESAI Power LLC. In 1999, he joined Energy Security Analysis, Inc. (ESAI) and in 2003 took responsibility for ESAI’s Northeast Power Service analytics and research. In 2009, he formed ESAI Power LLC and became Principal and Managing Director of this new entity independent of ESAI. He also serves as Senior Consultant and Project Manager for consulting engagements. Prior to his roles at ESAI Power, Paul Flemming was Manager of Trading at Koch Industries and Caltex Petroleum (Chevron-Texaco) in Singapore. He also has experience in Project Development and Mergers and Acquisitions. He has over thirty years of experience in the energy field, largely in trading and market analysis.
Senior Analyst & Principal | Bio
Scott has extensive experience in the areas of energy, environment, and commercial litigation and has contributed to numerous economic and statistical analyses. Having joined ESAI in January 2013, Dr. Niemann will be directly responsible for contributing to ESAI’s ongoing power market publications, driving specific market analysis for ESAI clients, and assisting with modeling exercises in support of ESAI’s market analytics and ongoing client support. Previously as a part of CRA’s Energy and Environment practice, much of his experience involved detailed modeling and analysis of wholesale electricity markets. These analyses have addressed financial performance of generating assets, benefits of potential transmission upgrades, valuation of financial transmission rights, market power concerns, and economic damages. Prior to joining CRA, Dr. Niemann was a principal consultant at PA Consulting (and predecessor companies, PHB Hagler Bailly, and Putnam, Hayes, and Bartlett), where he worked on economic analyses in the environmental, energy, and litigation practice areas. Dr. Niemann has extensive experience in all parts of the power markets.
Director ISO & Government Affairs & Senior Transmission Analyst | Bio
Jose is an expert in competitive electricity markets and the role played by transmission issues in these markets. He leads ESAI Power’s Transmission Watch™ service, providing monthly and quarterly analyses on transmission issues and is also a lead policy contributor to ESAI’s Capacity Watch™ and Northeast EnergyWatch™ services. Mr. Rotger also serves as Cross-Sound Cable Company, LLC’s RTO/ISO representative, having been involved in NEPOOL since the mid-1990s and in the NYISO since its formation in 1999. As part of this role, Mr. Rotger is presently the Vice Chair of the NEPOOL Transmission Committee. Previously Mr. Rotger was Director, Regulatory Policy and Markets for TransÉnergie U.S. Ltd., the original developer of the Cross Sound Cable. Prior to that he was a Principal Rate Analyst for the New England Electric System (now National Grid), and before NEES, he served as an Economist with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.
Director Energy Services | Bio
Oliver re-joined ESAI Power in January 2013, and will be directly responsible for leading the production of ESAI’s ongoing energy focused power publications, leading the firms modeling and client support efforts while driving specific market analysis initiatives, and assisting with modeling exercises in support of ESAI’s market analytics. Mr. Kleinbub was previously a principal in the Energy & Environment Practice at Charles River Associates (CRA). He is an electrical engineer with 10 years of experience in electric power systems analysis and power market research. At CRA, he oversaw analyses and modeling of wholesale electricity markets and advised clients on power market issues, including valuations of generation assets, benefits of proposed transmission projects, market power assessments, and RTO membership. Mr. Kleinbub further supported clients in regulatory proceedings and has submitted expert testimony to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Prior to joining Charles River Associates, Mr. Kleinbub was a senior analyst with Energy Security Analysis, Inc. in Wakefield, MA, where he provided intelligence on the Northeast power markets to a wide range of clients. He gained significant experience in power systems and reliability analyses as a senior engineer for National Grid in Westborough, MA, and as a power system planner for Southern California Edison in Rosemead, CA. Mr. Kleinbub is licensed as a professional engineer in the state of Massachusetts.
Power Analyst | Bio
Julia joined ESAI in 2007. She leads ESAI’s Emissions WatchTM publication, and works extensively on ESAI’s renewable projects and our renewable supply/demand models. In addition, she is responsible for ESAI’s Project Evaluation Program. Prior to joining ESAI, she worked at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) in Washington, D.C.
Director North American Business Development | Bio
Tommy has over 25 years of business development and sales experience growing successful sales driven organizations. In his position as ESAI Power’s head of business development, sales, and marketing, he oversees all client and prospect relationships, as well as driving sales initiatives related to product offerings designed to enhance performance and growth.
Mr. Sutro has been with ESAI Power since 2004, driving revenue and client growth 40%+ every year since he began and instigating practices to solidify the firm’s now 98% client retention rate.
Before joining ESAI Power, Mr. Sutro was a Director of Sales & Marketing at Sourcing Unlimited, Inc. (DBA Jumpsource) a global manufacturer of custom metal sub-assemblies and fabrications with operations in the US and China. Prior to that he was an Associate at Mustang Management Partners, a boutique private equity firm. Mr. Sutro began his career at Forrester Research, Inc. a global technology research firm, where he was one of five original Global Sales Managers after holding the position of Business Development Manager, and frequent President’s and Quota Club member.
Mr. Sutro is a graduate of numerous professional sales training programs including Solution Selling, Large Account Management Program, and Miller Heiman, Inc.
Office Manager | Bio
Kathy has over 20 years experience as an Office Manager and has been with ESAI for the last 10 years. She handles the general office flow, subscription management and bookkeeping. She serves as a point person for client site access, distribution of publications and accounting queries. Kathy holds a bachelor’s degree from Providence College.
